The term green is something that has been kicked around a lot lately, but what can you do? Many of the “green” items on the market are much more expensive then conventional. But there are some small changes you can make in your life that can actually make a difference with out costing you an arm and a leg.
- Be water conscious, it is not a renewable resource. By shortening your showers and turning the water off while brushing your teeth you can help preserve that valuable natural resource, and save a little on your water bill!
- Use cold water when washing your clothes, use eco friendly detergents and air dry some of your clothes. It reduces your energy use and carbon foot print.
- Reuse and recycle what ever you can.

Save Money By Going Green
A lot of philosophies associated with going green concern saving money, and not necessarily spending money. You don’t have to go and buy a fancy Prius, driving less and taking public transportation will do.
You don’t have to buy all organic clothing and furniture, just go to a thrift store or second hand store and just buy things that are already in circulation. Here are some other money saving green tips

Eco-Friendly Hair Salon
If you’re in the market for a new hair salon, you might want to choose a green hair salon. Green hair salons use chemical-free shampoos, conditioners, and color treatments. They also practice waste-, energy-, and water-conservation.

Students Go Green
What can you do to make sure that students of Duke University or University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill go green?
Completed in 2003, the EcoDorm at Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, N.C. houses 36 students who have dedicated themselves to living an eco-friendly lifestyle together.
Students must commit to using less energy and conserving as much as possible by not using hair dryers and drying clothes outside.

Four fun ways to capture life’s memories
(ARA) – Life is full of unique experiences and memorable events. But often our most significant moments are fleeting. So we rely on memories — and the tradition of storytelling — to keep them alive.
Throughout the ages, women have found ways to preserve their family histories and honor loved ones. From keeping a journal to creating a beautiful charm bracelet that captures special memories, here are four fun, tried-and-true ways to tell your story:
Use photography
Images, like photographs and drawings, are great ways to remember events in our lives. Since the invention of cameras, women have used photo albums to capture events and illustrate the stories of their families and friends. Today, many women have taken up scrapbooking, using photographs, artifacts and well-chosen words to create one, comprehensive story.
Modern technology has allowed women to take scrapbooking a step further: a blog can be a “virtual scrapbook.” It can incorporate images, slideshows and written anecdotes — and be personalized in many different ways. In addition, services such as Facebook, Flickr and Snapfish offer ways to create photo albums on the Internet. These services let you share your pictures with family and friends.

Light It Up with Fluorescent Bulbs
You keep hearing the term “Go Green” all over the news, in magazines and on billboards but just how do you do that?
You can actually do something very simple to get started on the “Going Green” path: simply purchase compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs.
CFL bulbs are those funny-looking bulbs with swirls of glass tubing, lit with argon gas and mercury vapor. They are slightly more expensive than traditional incandescent light bulbs, but they pay for themselves in six months and can last 10 times longer than the incandescent light bulbs you’re using now.
That means if you have a light fixture you use quite a bit and find yourself changing the light bulb in it every six months, using a CFL bulb means you won’t change that bulb again for five years. The higher the wattage of a CFL bulb, the longer the bulb will be, with more fluorescent glass spirals. That means a 40 watt CFL bulb is smaller than a 100 watt CFL. You can even purchase CFL bulbs for recessed lighting.
And since CFL bulbs use less energy, you will eventually notice a dip in your energy bills in the coming months and years.
No need to replace your incandescent bulbs all at once; that would be quite an expense. As your incandescent bulbs burn out, replace them with CFL bulbs. Don’t forget that since each CFL bulb utilizes a small amount of mercury, you can’t just throw away a burned-out CFL bulb, it must be recycled. Many recycling locations will take your used CFL bulbs at no cost or give you a discount on future CFL bulb purchases.
